Remembrance Day 2009 in Edmonton

red poppy.jpg

Tomorrow is November 11th, Remembrance Day.

On the 11th hour of the 11th month we gather to pay our respects for Canada's fallen soldiers, killed in combat and peacekeeping missions all over the world.

There are several events throughout the city where you can pay your respects. Of course, the biggest event is at the Butterdome Pavilion at the University of Alberta. The event begins at 10:30am and people are asked to be there by 10am. Mayor Stephen Mandel, local politicians, members of the Canadian Forces and veterans will all gather for this event.

City Hall marks Remembrance Day with a ceremony beginning at 10am inside the hall.

Edmontonians, members of the Canadian Forces and family members of fallen soldiers will gather at the Ainsworth Dyer Bridge in Rundle Park to place crosses for every Canadian casualty from Afghanistan at 10:30.

There are lots of other Remembrance Day ceremonies happening across the city, many of which are listed on the City of Edmonton's calendar on November 11th.
