Fear and Happiness in the Modern World is the captivating theme of the first Festival of Ideas, November 13-16/08 at the University of Alberta.

This inaugural festival is a major event in the University of Alberta's Centenary year. The festival program will include artists, scientists, philosophers, politicians, activists and social commentators.

Highlights will include the opening night with author Salmon Rushdie; a debate between environmentalist Edward O. Wilson and Professor of Ecology David Schindler; a Philosophers' Cafe with writer Thomas King and a production of Monteverdi's opera Orfeo.
