Cowboy culture at Royal Alberta Museum

cowboys.jpg

I'm fascinated by cowboy culture. So I'm definitely checking out three new exhibitions exploring unique facets of cowboy culture at the Royal Alberta Museum. The exhibitions are:

Arte en la Charreria: The Artisanship of Mexican Equestrian Culture (until April 13/09)
This exhibition presents La Charreria, one of Mexico's cultural traditions and a symbol of the country's national identity.

Joshua's Journey: A Black Cowboy Rides the Chisholm Trail (until January 4/09)
The exhibition is based on an American book series that tells the story of life on the Chisholm Trail through the eyes of Joshua Loper, a 16-year-old black cowboy.

Alberta Cowboys in Art (November 4/08 - January 4/09)
Cowboys have certainly shaped Alberta's history and the exhibition shows cowboy life interpreted in
paintings, photographs and sculptures.

For more information, check out the Royal Alberta Museum online.
