Alberta Arts Day

Alberta Culture and Community Spirit is encouraging Albertans to showcase and celebrate arts in Alberta on Alberta Arts Day, September 6/08. "Every community - big or small - has creative and talented artists - painters, musicians, dancers, potters, writers and more. Alberta Arts Day is an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and demonstrate our strong community spirit," says the provincial government.

Among events already planned are:
Fort Edmonton Park: Storytelling Festival, August 31-September 1/08
Japanese Garden Walk, September 13/08
Native People Garden Walk, September 14/08
Symphony Under the Sky, August 29-September 1/08

Albertans are encouraged to participate by planning their own small event and suggests:

Sing with others or listen to Alberta performers.
Explore your inner photographer or videographer.
Create outdoor art gallery on your block.
Host a Crafternoon.
Celebrate food as art.
Experience the art of another culture.
Organize a Reel Adventure Movie Tour.
Host a story slam.

Or participate in activities including:

Take part in an art walk in your community.
Attend one of the events listed on the Alberta Arts Day website.
Attend a festival taking place in your area.
Sign up for an arts course.
Attend open houses at a theatre, performing arts facility, studio or art gallery.
Read a book or attend a reading by an Alberta author.
